Urban Beekeeping 101
Updated for 2018! This twelve-hour course will teach you everything you need to know to safely start and maintain a beehive in an urban environment. You won’t be a seasoned expert, but you will know enough to get started.
Among the things this course will cover:
- basic bee biology
- construction of a bee hive
- safe hive placement
- general maintenance
- dealing with neighbors and landlords
- troubleshooting in the hive
- processes and life cycle within the colony
- diseases and treatments
Learn how to invigorate your vegetables and fortify your flowers (and those of the neighborhood) while contributing to the environment and ensuring yourself as much as 100 lbs of pure raw honey per year per hive. This course teaches everything you need to know to start or continue your fascinating love story with the bees. We'll address all the beekeeping basics as well as the unique challenges and benefits to keeping bees in an urban environment. Learn about this fulfilling and rewarding hobby. Become a beekeeper. The course will occur in four Saturday sessions from 10am until 1pm:

- February 10
- March 3
- March 10
Exact location to be sent to participants in mid-January. Location will be within walking distance of Columbus Circle, next to Central Park, on Manhattan's West Side.
The four-session, twelve-hour course is $200.00. Seating is limited. Please note that we will not be offering refunds after December 31st, 2017.
